    Report Unemployment Insurance Fraud

    DEW needs your help reporting individuals or employers suspected of fraud and unemployment insurance system abuse. Help us ensure South Carolina employers’ tax dollars are spent wisely and unemployment benefits only go to benefit-eligible individuals.

    Fraud
    Fraud takes place when an individual or employer knowingly misrepresents material facts that allow them to collect Unemployment Insurance Benefits when the individual would otherwise be disqualified or misrepresent any tax liabilities owed DEW.

    Information and Instruction
    Report Fraud four ways:

    1. Online Survey
    2. Mail
    3. Fax
    4. Telephone

    Provide as many details as possible regarding the fraud you’re reporting including:

    1. The name, address, SS# (if available) or individual or business suspected of committing fraud
    2. The business’s name and address involved with the allegation
    3. Specific dates surrounding the allegation, hours or times worked, and specific details that help substantiate the allegation.

    Important
    You need not provide your name or identifying information to file a fraud allegation unless you want to. Any contact information provided remains confidential.

    Reporting Fraud
    Report someone receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits and not reporting their earnings to SCDEW.

    Report someone receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits but not reporting they’re working and being paid cash “under the table.”

    Report someone receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits at the same time they were incarcerated.  

    Report someone receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits but not able or available for work due to illness, injury, out of town, etc.

    Report someone receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits who's engaged in self employment.

    Report an employer paying individuals cash to avoid paying taxes on these individuals.

    Report an employer paying individuals as independent contractors that need to be categorized as employees.

    Report an employer filing employer-filed claims for individuals while still paying individuals for working.
