DEW Acting Executive Director Jamie D. Suber’s Statement

December 2018 Employment Situation

“While South Carolina’s employment numbers hold strong, the agency and our workforce partners are always driving to create opportunities for education, training and development to bolster the state’s business and industry. In partnership with the State Technical College System, the S.C. Department of Commerce, the Manufacturing Alliance and local areas, South Carolina has launched ManuFirst,” said Jamie Suber, acting executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. “This initiative will boost the entry level manufacturing labor force through training developed by business and education which provides the skills equivalent to one-year of experience. ManuFirst is just one example of the energy and strength generated through collaboration throughout the state.”

About the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce

The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) is putting South Carolinians to work. The agency invests in building a pipeline of quality workers, matches workers with jobs, and is a bridge for individuals who find themselves out of work for no fault of their own. This promotes financial stability and economic prosperity for employers, individuals and communities. DEW is dedicated to advancing South Carolina through services that meet the needs of the state’s businesses, jobseekers and those looking to advance their careers.
