LMI Launches New Website
By Lainey Stalnaker, Data Analytics Writer
The Labor Market Information (LMI) division of DEW is launching a brand-new website, which can be accessed at lmi.sc.gov. At LMI, our mission is to collect, analyze, and disseminate vital data about the labor market in order to help you make more informed decisions, whether you are a jobseeker, employer, researcher, or simply interested in the labor market. Read on to learn about the many valuable resources accessible through our website.
Key Resources
At the top of the website is a navy-blue banner with tabs for the many types of data available to our users. These tabs are a powerful navigational tool for visitors and will be discussed later in this article, but we direct your attention first to the center of the page, where six buttons are featured. These buttons lead to some of our most useful resources.
Find Your Future: The Find Your Future website, created by the Coordinating Council for Workforce Development (CCWD), brings together resources for jobseekers, employers, students, and educators with the goal of facilitating an individual’s transition to the workforce.
Community Profiles: Community Profiles provide a summary of economic and workforce data for multiple geographies, including the state, counties, metropolitan statistical areas, Workforce Development Areas, and WIOA regions. Profiles are updated monthly.
SC Data Trends Magazine: LMI’s Data Trends magazine is a monthly publication of employment and unemployment statistics for South Carolina, its counties, and its metropolitan statistical areas. Each edition of Trends also includes a feature piece, which explores a facet of the labor market in greater depth.
LMI Insights: LMI Insights is a page with articles that cover a variety of topics related to the labor market—such as our new website.
LMI Dashboards: LMI dashboards allow users to visualize and compare labor market data across geographies. Our labor force participation dashboard maps and charts data such as population size and unemployment rates; it is updated monthly. Our veterans dashboard presents data on veterans in South Carolina, including their demographic traits, income status, disability status, and education level.
Request DEW Data: This button allows state and local government officials, researchers, and other qualified individuals to request DEW data for research purposes.
Additional Resources
In addition to the main links on our website, resources for specific users are available under the tabs at the top of the page. Under the Employer tab, we have linked information on priority occupations and Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes. This tab also directs users to the SC Works Employer page, which provides services related to employee recruitment and training.
For researchers, we’ve created the Data Hub tab, which includes a directory of BLS data, LMI’s short-term and long-term employment projections, and a dashboard of staffing patterns, which represents the distribution of employment by occupation in each industry.
Under the Jobseeker tab, users can access DEW’s Explore SC@Work page, which provides job descriptions and relevant data for a variety of occupations throughout the state, including priority occupations. This tab also directs users to the SC Works website, which provides jobseekers with career resources such as employment opportunities.
Other LMI products, such as CCWD publications, annual economic analysis reports, regional profiles, and the DEW Leading Index can be found under the Publications tab. Under Other Resources, users will find a BLS release calendar and links to federal and state data.
Conclusion
Through the launch of our new website, LMI’s goal is to make our many resources and data products more accessible to all of our stakeholders, including members of the business community, industry leaders, educators, researchers, and jobseekers.
