DEW Executive Director's Statement June 2019

Fri, 07/19/2019

“As the number of South Carolinians working continues its record climb, it becomes increasingly important that we prepare students with the job skills needed for the state’s workforce. In 2005, the state initiated South Carolina’s Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG-SC) program. This school-to-work transition program focuses on helping challenged and disadvantaged youth graduate from high school and either find employment or continue their education. Earlier this month, JAG-SC was awarded the prestigious “5-of-5” award for the ninth consecutive year. This recognition is presented to celebrate the states that meet or exceed standards in five key program areas including graduation rate, school placement rate, total positive outcomes rate, job placement rate and full-time jobs rate. This is an extraordinary example of how state and local leadership can successfully support effective workforce solutions,” said Dan Ellzey, executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.
